Spam Filtering

Using the Spam Catcher settings

We've changed where you edit your default Spam Catcher strength and added several new options. You can now change your default by going to the Spam Catcher Settings section of Spam Filtering. The new options include:

  • Exclusive setting. You can choose, as a global option, to receive messages only from senders listed as Approved Senders or Address Book contacts.

  • Choose how your Spam Catcher strength is used. You can now choose whether to use this setting only as a default for future addresses or to use it as the default and reset all of your addresses. (By default, all addresses will be reset.)

  • Choose where caught spam is delivered. You can now choose what you want to do with caught spam. (By default, it is saved in the Junk folder.)

Using the Virus Protection settings

We've changed where Premium users edit the default Virus Protection setting and added several new options. You can now change your default by going to the Spam Catcher Settings section of Spam Filtering. The new options include:

  • Choose how your Virus Protection setting is used. You can now choose whether to use this setting only as a default for future addresses or to use it as the default and reset all of your addresses. (By default, all addresses will be reset.)

  • Choose whether to save a full copy. For messages stripped by this feature, you can choose whether to save a copy of the full, unaltered message so that you don't miss important attachments. (By default, no copy will be saved.)

Cleaning spam from your existing email

The interface that allows Premium users to retrieve and filter messages from existing email accounts has been simplified. When you add a new account in the Clean Existing Email section of Spam Filtering, at first you'll only be asked for your email address, password, and which Mailshell address you want to receive the messages. For most accounts, this should be enough information for Mailshell to retrieve the messages; only if more information is required will you be asked to enter a server name, server type, etc.

Additionally, we now provide an "index" page of accounts you have set up so you can easily find basic information like where they are being delivered and whether they are turned on or off, and you can click the delivery address name to quickly edit options like the Spam Catcher setting for that address.

Managing disposable email addresses

Previously, Mailshell displayed a delivery menu for every disposable address, which made it difficult for most browsers to display a lot of addresses at once. We've changed the delivery column to a plain text display so that you can choose to show more addresses on a page. We've also added checkboxes to the left side to make it easier to delete multiple addresses at once, and you can use the menu at the bottom of your address list to change the delivery setting for multiple addresses at once.
